If you enjoy the flavourful dishes from the Caribbean and the sounds of sweet soca music then Chowfest will be the perfect way to kick off your end of summer festivities. Chowfest is a festival that celebrates the popular Trinidadian fruit dish “chow” by bringing together Caribbean restaurants across the GTA for a competition and a traditional Trini lime.
Chow is a local Trinidadian dish that mixes local spices with exotic fruits that can be found in the Caribbean. Chow is also made with fruits such as mango, pineapple, and pommecythere mixed with chadon beni, pepper, lime juice, and other seasoning. \
Taking place at Kalypso Hut located at 1455 Britannia Road East, Mississauga from 12PM to 8PM, it will also have live entertainment including DJ’s playing the best in Caribbean music, a Tassa band, and other traditional Trinidadian food such as doubles.
Each restaurant participating in Chowfest will be hosting their own small events at their establishments on the same day, and each restaurant will bring their best chow to Kalypso Hut for judging. There will be a total of five judges with a grand prize of $250. This year, the special guest judge will be DJ Riyad from G98.7 FM.
There will also be a People’s Choice Award where the audience will vote on their favourite chow. To see a list of participating restaurants, please visit the website at chowfest.ca/participating-restaurants.
This year, Chowfest is collaborating with The Push For Change charity to collect donations in hopes of ending youth homelessness.
