After throwing a string of successful events in April and June of this year, THAT SLOW JAM PARTY is back and more ready than ever. Boasting “a night of unforgettable R&B classics past & present”, the organizers guarantee that you’ll be singing at the top of your lungs.

Directed by Director X, the three-and-a-half-minute video shows Ashanti, Montano and crew doing everything from getting covered in coloured powder at Jouvert to wining on each other in the streets on Carnival Tuesday in Trinidad. Like the song, the video is a celebration of all things Carnival and the euphoric feeling of wukkin’ down the road for two days straight.

Machel and Ashanti initially met back in 2015 when the “Say Less” singer performed at Wet Fete Weekend in Tobago. According to Billboard magazine, Ashanti was advised that she cover a local musician’s song during her performance and who better than to cover than one of the country’s biggest stars? She went on to perform his biggest hit that carnival season, “Like a Boss” and posted it to Instagram where Montano then suggested that the pair collaborate.

That fated virtual meeting eventually led to the high-tempo, waist-moving ode to Trinidad Carnival that is “The Road.” The sound of the record is a mix of traditional power Soca music with an EDM flare. When discussing the collaboration, the pair said that the song is part of a bigger plan to push soca music further into the mainstream.

“I am bringing my fans to this record, so the more promotion we do, it can help to make soca bigger and for me to play even a small role in that would be awesome,” Ashanti said.
